Low Cost Business Advertising by Project WORD - Business Dictionary - Business Directory
ENTERPRISING YOUNG COUPLE SPREAD THE WORD WITH NEW VENTURE
WITH the credit crunch starting to bite, a young couple have come up with the perfect solution for people looking for a cost-effective and fun way to promote their businesses.
Jamie Delo (22), who has just completed a degree in computer science at Loughborough University, has set up Project WORD with his partner Sophia Luisada
Their innovative web based business dictionary allows members to pay just £1 to ‘buy’ a keyword related to their business and then have it linked to their website.
“We thought this would be a fun, low-cost and simple way of advertising businesses. We enable businesses to give potential customers an insight into what they have to offer by defining a relevant keyword,” explains Jamie.
“We have already received great feedback from people who have seen an increase in visitors to their website after signing up to Project WORD.”
“There is so little that you can buy for £1 and this gives people the chance to be part of a fun concept while also promoting their business.”
Getting involved in Project WORD is easy. You simply visit the website at www.projectword.co.uk, choose a keyword related to your business, check if it’s available and then link that word to your website.
The word – or words – you define are then exclusive to your business and all for a one-off payment of £1 per word.
“All the words are added to our dictionary so that people can search for businesses of interest and they are also categorised to make it even easier to find relevant businesses,” says Sophia, (20) who is studying art and design management at De Montfort University and lives in the city centre.
“To make the site more interactive and fun, and also attract more visitors to members’ websites, we randomly feature words on the homepage of our website so that potential customers can click on words to find the linked website and the site also features a latest words section,”
Jamie and Sophia have also ensured that smaller businesses without their own websites are catered for with an online business card that can be linked to a chosen keyword, again for just £1.
They are constantly reviewing the site, listening to customer feedback and expanding their new company.
“We have lots of ideas for developing Project WORD as more and more businesses become involved,” says Jamie.
“What we have launched so far has proved to a be a simple, cost-effective and popular way of enabling businesses to promote themselves,” says Jamie, “But this is only the beginning and we have some exciting ideas for the coming months.”
Notes to Editors: Jamie Delo and Sophia Luisada set up Project WORD in May 2008. A second version was released in August. They are aiming to build a comprehensive business directory offering their customers a simple, cost-effective and fun way to promote their companies.
